Just bought our tickets to Rome, never been. I'm a picky eater but this helped me find some dishes! Especially that beef sandwich at the beginning
My bf and I went to the last restaurant…it was fantastic!!! He was a bit taken aback at the “no menu” thing but what they brought us was delicious and priced very well. It’s a bit off the beaten path but absolutely worth it! I had the carbonara and he had a tomato based pasta with two sticks of liver at the end! Thank you for the recommendation!!
Been to Rome last year. Trappizino is the best thing I’ve ever encountered. Waiting time is crazy but it’s worth it. Never tasted something like that

Food in Rome was terrible. Worst of any European capital I have been to so far. Standards in Paris, London etc are much higher. For example, London has 66 Michelin Star restaurants to Rome’s 23. These don’t spring up in isolation and are reflective of the overall talent pool and cooking standards.

Rome has so much great food and it's such a pity that the city is absolutely infested with tourist scam restaurants that give you rubbish food and service for twice the normal price. We went to quite a few in Rome which was a real disappointment as we were really looking forward to the incredible Italian food. Tourist restaurant spotting 101: 1, if it has a pushy person outside trying to usher you in or big flashy signs, don't eat there. 2, don't go to restaurants in extremely touristy parts of town, they are basically certain to be tourist traps. 3, don't eat there if the menu and waiters default into a non local language. 4, only go to restaurants locals recommend or if you see locals eating there, then it's probably a good bet. If they don't automatically give you a menu or if there aren't prices on the menu, go somewhere else. We have several stories of Roman tourist restaurants. Once, we went into this restaurant, we were hungry and ignored the signs so we sat down and ordered. I had some almost raw pasta which had way too much pepper and was awful cheese that was probably from a packet and this slimy, flavourless seafood that was also grim. There was also a time where we ordered some spaghetti bolognese or something like that and even though we were the only people in the restaurant but it took nearly 1 hour to get our rubbish food. The worst of them all was when were on our way to an actually good restaurant but we got lured in by one of those people who stand outside ushering you in. It took ages and we were randomly moved for no reason all for rubbish pizzas. We were hungry and these restaurants know that when we are hungry, we don't think properly and don't pick up on these red flags, like we did. Rome has taught us to be more careful.

Great suggestions, but perhaps next time in Italy someone could teach you how to eat spaghetti without it falling out of your mouth. Stab it, separate from the pile and then twist.

and you guys did a wonderful job, you went to my favorite places to eat!
however, you have not tasted the two best dishes you can eat from the restaurant "betto e mary":
coratella (lamb entrails
) and pasta animelle e noci (fresh pasta with bovine salivary glands and nuts)
The strict lunch and dinner times drove me crazy when I was in Parma, especially when you were starving and nothing was open! So bizarre but wine does a pretty good job of filling you up and they serve wine 24/7 lol
