The gardens are very beautiful in April with the sakura and plums flowering . The best food in Kanazawa is Platt Home. A hidden gem. One of my favourite cities.

For the Osaka-Kanazawa-Tokyo area by rail, there is an alternative JR pass you can use, it is called the Hokuriku Arch Pass, and the Thunderbird and Hokuriku Shinkansen are included.. It’s cheaper than the Japan-wide JR Pass, ¥25,000 for One week unlimited pass, and you can see lots of places off the beaten path. I did this trip in August 2019 starting in Tokyo. Itoigawa, Kanazawa, Takaoka, Toyama, and Karuizawa with the major city centres on either end of course! Noto Peninsula, Amaharashi and Kurobe Gorge are also along this northern route and worth a proper explore on the smaller local JR lines. Just one week to explore this section of the northern coast is not enough!

Question for you Rion: How has the state of emergency impacted the opening times of sights/attractions and restaurants?
I read somewhere that restaurants just have to stop serving alcohol by a certain time. Is that the only restriction? Or is it also only take out?
For attractions/places (like Kenrokuen, or malls) – have their hours reduced at all?

I heard Go Go curry is actually a Tokyo company making Kanazawa curry. It's salty. Champion curry is the best out of Kanazawa curry.

Thanks for the hotel suggestion! I was considering what hotel to stay in Kanazawa near the station that includes breakfast too.
City buses here in the United States don't make change either. :p Here in Washington DC Metro buses require prepaid bus 'smart' passes. I am still amazed with the 'spork'. LOL and now I need to eat some of that curry pork cutlets! If I ever become wealthy, I KNOW where I"m going on a 'food tour'.
